Who we are
SearchQuik is the company behind the Windows app and searchquik.com. This policy covers both: what the app does on your PC, and what the website stores when you apply for the beta or sign in.
What the app can access
You choose which folders SearchQuik may look through. It reads file names, paths, dates, sizes, and, for supported types, the text inside those files so you can search them. Photos and scanned PDFs may be processed with Windows OCR on this device if you leave those settings on. By default it looks through Desktop, Documents, Downloads and your other fixed drives, but not the drive Windows runs from; you can remove any of them. Windows system folders, program folders, temp files, and caches stay out by default.
What stays on this PC
The search index, settings, logs, and optional usage tally stay on this PC, under your Windows local app data. Searches, file names, and file contents are not sent to SearchQuik as part of search or indexing.
Your SearchQuik account
If you sign in with Google on the website or in the app, SearchQuik receives your Google account ID, name, email address and profile picture, and stores them on searchquik.com (Cloudflare Workers and a Neon database) so we can tell whether you are in the beta. The website keeps a session in an HttpOnly cookie named __Secure-sq_session (set for searchquik.com, Secure, SameSite=Lax). Page scripts never see that token. The Windows app keeps a session token in Windows Credential Locker. Signing out removes it from this browser or PC and ends that session on searchquik.com. Your files, file names and what you search are never part of your account. To delete your account, application and sessions, email [email protected].
Beta applications
You fill in the beta form, then confirm with Google. We store that account, plus Windows version and what you want to find faster if you give them. We use them only to run the beta: to decide who to approve, to let that account sign in to the app, and to email you from [email protected] (sent with Resend). Your IP address is used briefly to limit repeat submissions and is not stored. To withdraw, email support@.
Cookies
If you sign in, we set an HttpOnly cookie named __Secure-sq_session so this browser stays signed in. That cookie is necessary for apply, status and download. With your consent, the site also loads Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits and page loads without cookies and without tracking you across sites. The first visit shows a banner: Accept all (analytics on), Reject all (sign-in cookie only), or Your privacy settings to choose. Closing the banner keeps essential only. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, we treat it as Reject all. Your choice is stored in this browser for a year. To change it, use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page.
Optional usage sharing
Usage sharing is on unless you turn it off in Settings. SearchQuik records feature counts only (for example that a search happened, a file type filter, or that indexing finished), with a random install ID and a per-run session ID. If you are signed in, these counts are linked to your account. It never records what you typed, file names, or paths. A private log is kept on this PC, and the same count-only lines are sent over HTTPS to searchquik.com, which stores them so we can see whether the beta is useful. Your IP address is not stored with them. You can turn this off at any time.
Optional AI answers
Ask can quote matching passages from files already in your index without leaving this PC. If you turn on written answers and provide an API key or run a local model, short excerpts you already made searchable may be sent to that model provider. We do not receive those excerpts. You can leave AI off.
Currency conversion
If you type a currency amount in search, SearchQuik may request public European Central Bank reference rates (via Frankfurter) to show a conversion. That request happens only after a currency query, uses HTTPS, and does not include your search text or an account. Rates are cached on this PC.
Installed apps and media
The search bar can list Start Menu shortcuts and installed packaged apps by name, and can preview video files you select. App lists and previews stay on this PC.
Children
SearchQuik is a general-productivity app. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly create accounts for or collect contact information from children.
Your choices
Remove folders anytime. Turn OCR, photos OCR, AI, and usage sharing off in Settings. To remove the index and logs from this PC, uninstall SearchQuik and then delete its local data folder.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy in the app and at searchquik.com/privacy. Questions: support or [email protected].
